Executive editor Carol Hunter is retiring after a heroic tenure during one of the most challenging and transformative periods in the media company’s history.
I’ve always appreciated your kindness and support, Chuck! The news biz certainly has gotten a little more complicated since the days of Ken MacDonald. Big thanks to Carol for her decades of service to Iowans.
I won't be quite as magnaminous in my praise - still a little salty about what the Register has done/did to the Press-Citizen - but I will say she did a much better job than many newspaper chain execs at managing the dismantling of an institution. Carol always treated people with respect, dignity and care - which at the end of the day matters a great deal. I hope she has a relaxing retirement.
Now Carol can become a regular OWR participant. I attended one of her sessions, maybe OWR III, on editing and opinion writing. She was instructive and very insightful on the role of the press. Happy trails to her, I think she is a nature walker.
Thank you for the shout out to Carol. I disagree in part because I do not want Carol to leave journalism and I would hope you and others in the Writers collaborative challenge her to contribute her journalistic skills and her thoughts maneuvering through the transition in media.
Kyle would be a fine choice. My only question is his shoe size because he is going to need to fill very large shoes

Thank you Chuck for sharing a little history and this recommendation with your readers. You know talented and passionate people. 👍🏾
A natural. Great idea, Chuck.
Well, @Kyle Munson? What say you?

Kyle Munson would be an extraordinary choice. He’s a brilliant writer, knows Iowa, and has provided transformative leadership in our profession.
