When he was playing basketball at Winfield-Mount Union High School in the early 1990s, he was the talk of the state. And he’s been an Iowa favorite ever since!
Hi Chuck, about 35 years I got a contract to referee at Winfield Mt. Union. I lived in Iowa City and had not done game at this school recently. I had refereed in the Mississippi Valley for years and seen some pretty good talent. I got home that night and said to spouse Yvonne, ”I just saw the best high school basketball player I have ever seen, hands down. The kid is a sophomore and totally dominated in all 3 aspects, passing, shooting, and rebounding. They said he was a sophomore.” Yep, Mr. Settles.
