Chuck, my compliments on a delightful column! I was in Jefferson today, a rare visit. I am pleased the next generation is engaged in promoting the city!

“You reach a point in life where one of the best things you do is write checks,” Bill Helscher told me, and I’ve never forgotten it.

So true, but who knew?

Great article. Jefferson can serve as a model for other Iowa communities. The 30 somethings in each town can work together to make things better and to restore the state to its "Iowa nice" reputation.

Congratulations on the tickets to the football game.

I was in Jefferson this past weekend, too ... but didn't make it to the Bell Tower Festival (how did I avoid it!). Some relative and I were visiting family graves in Peyton, Jefferson, and Cooper, with a swing though Dana...where my great grandfather had a livery stable. I've spent a lot of time in Jefferson, and I love it!

This column makes me really sorry I didn't hang out at the festival! Good to know it's in good hands and will continue to go strong in coming years!

Nice story, Chuck. Can you work that generational-handoff magic in D.C.?
