A new memoir by former legislator Helen Miller is a “beautiful freedom story.” It also has lots of examples of how public officials might serve more effectively.
Reading about Helen's book makes me smile. So many books on my list. Another amazing person I have been lucky to meet via OWR. Her HELP motto is something the Iowa Legislature could learn as they dismantle local control over everything from books to the election of county board of supervisors. Thanks Chuck another good read to start my day.
Just added the book to my must read list. I had never heard of her, living most of my life in eastern Iowa. I did not now about the things that drew her and Dr. Miller to Fort Dodge. Interesting story Chuck. I remember reading your columns when I was younger, my grandmother was a Register subscriber and also got the Gazette. You find great Iowa stories, and you are still a great Iowa Boy!

What a fascinating profile. Can’t wait to read the book!
Chuck--
You have always been a true wonder. No one tells the Iowa Story like the 'Iowa Boy'!

A woman exciting to read about.
I first met Helen at a meeting in Fort Dodge when she was first running for Iowa House. Thank you for sharing a bit about her story and book, Chuck!
Wonderful column about an impressive leader!
